The renowned publisher has appointed Ben Brinkman from the creators of Apex Legends to direct the studio crew at their internal studio, which is currently developing the forthcoming over-the-shoulder action-packed title known as this innovative game.
Leadership Transition Follows Mixed Feedback
The new appointee steps into the leadership position at 31st Union following the departure of former leader the ex-Sledgehammer Games executive, who was removed from his post due to the game's underwhelming initial reveal last fall.
Recently, the company's top executive David Ismailer updated team members about this organizational change through an internal memo, which highlighted that early feedback sessions had revealed the need for a distinct game identity.
Ismailer noted that the team is now overhauling Project Ethos with a refreshed approach, aiming to better meet community desires.
Trend of Strategic Acquisitions
This announcement follows a comparable move taken by 2K Games in August, when they brought on an industry veteran from Blizzard to assist with the BioShock development group.
Below is the full content from Ismailer's memo:
Dear Team—
I know you all just completed your meeting - I trust you’re as thrilled as I am with the recent updates. Last time I sent you all a message, I stated the following: “I am confident in this crew. You all are some of the most motivated and talented developers we have had the chance to work with - and we’re looking forward for that collaboration to endure.”
Given your hard work and flexibility, especially over the last year, you continue to prove that.
The player input from last fall’s the game testing phase was enlightening. It confirmed the appeal of a action-packed game but made clear we still had refinements needed. It uncovered the necessity for a more distinct vision.
It has been motivating to see how far you’ve progressed. You accepted the criticism to consideration and revamped the title with a refreshed vision - one that’s positioned to achieve its potential to our audience.
The belief in this project grows every day. To advance the outstanding development you’ve made, I am thrilled to introduce the new hire as the new Director of the team. After a period of conversations, Ben starts with us on next week.
His guidance and background in the competitive gaming space is vast, having dedicated the past decade and a half creating and overseeing some of the most well-known titles in the industry, such as Call of Duty: Black Ops, and most recently, Apex Legends.
I invite you all in welcoming him soon. We are all excited to persist seeing the development of the game in the months to come.
David
Experience of the Incoming Head
The appointee currently holds the position of senior developer and production lead at Respawn Entertainment for Apex Legends. He previously was employed at major gaming companies in various development positions on the Call of Duty games, and, before that, had stints at other industry leaders.
Game Details and Vision
Project Ethos was unveiled in last year in conjunction with a early access event. Then, the developers presented the game as a "no-cost, 3rd-person action-packed experience and an exciting advancement on the category."
"Build your perfect run—or die trying—in this 3rd-person action shooter! Customize your character in real-time to suit your personal playstyle," the official summary reads. "Face the rivals with fresh skills, risks, and tests that shift every session. Will you withdraw carefully with your hard-earned loot? Or aim high, put it on the line, and trust your group can earn top ranking? The option is up to you."
The game does not have an confirmed launch window or platforms, but enthusiasts can anticipate additional details as creation progresses.
