Local Law Enforcement
Approximately fifty vehicles have been covered with what appears to be blood from a person in the German municipality of Hanau close to Frankfurt, as reported by authorities.
Automobiles, exterior walls and mailboxes were vandalized, sometimes with prohibited symbols, they reported in a release.
Officers report they were alerted during the night on Wednesday, when a resident noticed that a car in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been covered with a reddish substance.
The liquid had been drawn in the form of a swastika, they reported.
Law enforcement then located numerous other smeared vehicles and residential walls in the nearby vicinity.
Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under legislation outlawing the public display of Nazi symbols.
Law enforcement report preliminary tests show the liquid was probably blood from a person.
"Currently there is no lead as to its source; authorities are presently not informed of any harm in connection with the event," they added.
Local authorities said they were attempting "to solve the incident" and have asked to the public for details.
A senior official stated the incident rendered him speechless and required to be addressed quickly.
"This event affects the center of Hanau and reopens the pain of the right-wing terrorist attack half a decade ago," he wrote on a platform, recalling the death of nine people by a assailant aiming at people of foreign heritage in five years prior.
